Encouragement From Unexpected Places

It’s a strange season for me, I’m moving slower, trying to be more intentional about where I expend my energies, and where I use my words. There’s an opportunity waiting in the wings, and I’ve been so confused by my own reaction to it. As I’ve prayed and wondered and stood still waiting for an answer, I’ve heard God whispering to me.

I’ve heard His hushed words in small emails, and the other evening, in a completely unexpected ‘snail-mail’ letter I received.

Today, His words of encouragement slipped right off of a brown page of a seemingly ordinary children’s book.

Here’s the thing, the encouragement isn’t just for me–it’s yours too. You need to hear this, so listen, lean in–are you listening?

“Everyone’s story matters”.  (<—Tweet that truth, would ya? ) That’s it. That’s the truth I read while reading  The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore to my children, a lump wedged itself in my throat. Tears pooled at the edge of my eyelids, because for me, that’s what happens when the truth smacks me square in the face.

Your story, my story, all of our stories matter because they are part of a a bigger story–His.

So go on, tell your story.

Tell it fearless and honest. In sharing your story, you bring your Father the ultimate glory.

Don’t wait.

Start today.

Right now.

On a whim, I picked up this book yesterday at the library for my children. As a writer and book lover, I immediately feel in love with this book. I promise, if you love words, you will adore this book. It is an absolute treasure.

Also, have you ever read “The Big Orange Splot” by D. Manus Pinkwater? It’s a children’s book that I feel the same way about when it comes to each of us being who we uniquely are. If you haven’t read it, you definitely need to add it to your list!
