Oh sweet Five Minute Friday, how I have missed this word play! If you’re new here, (and some of you are
) On Fridays we let our hair down–we write unedited, freely, to whatever prompt Lisa-Jo offers up. We call it all good and we publish and pass cyber chocolate to each other in the form of sweet comments and encouragement. I hope you’ll join us–all are welcome!
The new year breaks white with wonder and we can’t even see the old because it’s buried deep in the snow. I relish fresh starts. I crave do-overs because I know how much of a gift they are. I’m in chronic need of new mercies, as I trip and stagger my way through this life.
Just like that, opportunity unfolds. I’ve been awestruck and hung up on the waste-less ways of God’s economy. We’re ready to stuff last year in the trunk and lock it up. We’ve tossed out the trees and the tinsel, we’ve stripped the walls of old calendars and reminders of appointments missed, and weeks that blurred in the frantic race of life–we’re done with that.
But God saw all of those moments. He walked with us through the lumbering days and all those moments we might have shaken our heads and muttered about what a waste that was.
All the stuff that we’re ready to white-wash and forget, He uses for purpose. He sees endless opportunity as He turns all things into glory–His glory. I failed a great many times last year. I broke promises and made wrong turns and wrestled for control when I should have been bent, in submission. But God is a master of mistake makeovers. Every day, not just every new year–opportunity.
I say bring what you will, Lord. I laugh at the days, because I know how God spins all things for His purpose. It’s all an opportunity.
I can’t wait to see what He does.
