Months ago, I emailed Sarah Mae to tell her I’d gladly review the the book she co-authored with Sally Clarkson. When the book arrived just before Christmas, I set it aside hoping I’d manage to read a few pages sometime during our Christmas break.
Things got busier than I expected, we had some struggles with one of our children, and on Christmas eve, I sort of fell apart. At a SAMS club. I have a knack lately for coming undone in the worst possible places–but we can talk about that another day.
Later that weekend, things had quieted down and I picked up my copy of Desperate: Hope for the Mom Who Needs to Breathe, and began to read. honestly, I was unprepared for how much this book moved me. In those desperate moments the week of Christmas, this book felt like a personal letter to me–better than that, It was as if I were sitting down with these two women, listening to them encourage my weary heart. The words these women have written are pure gift.
There’s a whole smattering of giveaways happening if you buy the book this week–and each one is awesome (you really should check them out) but there’s an even better reason to buy this book, and that is simply this: this book breaths hope into the soul of weary moms.
I am so thankful for a book on mothering that speaks so directly to the real struggles Mom’s face. Sally and Sarah Mae compliment each other beautifully with this book, as you hear both the perspective of the mother in the trenches still (Sarah Mae) and the voice of wisdom and encouragement of a mother who has raised her children and learned much along the way (Sally).
Mom’s, if you read one book on mothering this new year, let it be this one. You will be encouraged.
