A Letter To The Dreamers Out There

Letter to the dreamers

Hey dreamer, I see you–with the laundry in your hands while your mind is digging wells in Haiti, or writing that book you’re afraid to scratch out on paper.

I know your hesitations and your trembling. I know the hours lost in the night as your mind rolls this dream around like a marble, while you’re smoothing the surface of it over and over again.

That foster child you long to open your home to, that mountain you imagine is too tall for you to climb–it’s within your reach, if you let Him take you to it.

I’ve known the sweaty-palmed, lip biting fear of just speaking the dream out loud, let alone trying to actually live it. I know how foolish you feel–how people sometimes don’t understand.

Maybe they won’t.

That’s okay.

Your dream is special. It’s yours because He tailor made it for you.

People didn’t understand Abraham.

David was an unlikely candidate for giant slaying. But God had a plan.

He gave them a vision for the future. He set their feet on the path. They only needed to follow, to believe in the promise–to believe in the promise maker.

Believe Him.

Take the next step.

Then the next one. And then the next.

Feel His hand on your back, gently nudging you on.

Wait when He slows you, rest when He encourages you to.

Ignore the nay-sayers and keep going.

However ridiculous you feel chasing these God-sized dreams, however afraid and awkward it may seem, don’t quit.

Trust Him.

You were made for this. You are His. He goes with you. <–Tweet this

He gives power to the weak
and strength to the powerless.
Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint
(Isaiah 40:29-31)

My dream is to go on a Compassion trip. Not sure how it is going to happen, but if God wants me to go, I know it will happen. I love that He encourages us to dream!

Yvonne, that is a dream I share. Last year I nearly drove myself crazy with the longing for it, but I have laid it completely at His feet. When and if He sees fit, He will send me. It was a hard desire to lay down, but I feel so much more peace about it this season. Praying for you–maybe we’ll both go, at the same time ;) Wouldn’t that be something?! Thanks for reading, my friend.

So lovely. I like how you started with specific dreams. These dreams come in all shapes and sizes, but God does want us pursuing them. Thanks for the sweet reminder.

They do, dont they? All kinds of dreams, for all kinds of dreamers–it never ceases to amaze me how one God cares so personally for each of us.
